Data Found in Photo

Good news! We couldn't find any hidden EXIF data or GPS coordinates. It is already safe to share.

Image will be processed locally via HTML5 Canvas.

What is the Metadata Scrubber?

When you take a photo with a smartphone or digital camera, the device invisibly attaches a block of hidden data to the image file called EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format). While this data is useful for organizing your personal photo library, it poses a massive privacy risk when shared online.

If you upload an original photo to a blog, email, or chat app without scrubbing it first, it can reveal:

  • Exact GPS Coordinates: The precise latitude and longitude of where you were standing (which can easily expose your home address or workplace).
  • Timestamps: The exact date, hour, and minute the photo was captured.
  • Device Information: The brand, model, and software version of your phone or camera.

This tool acts as a digital eraser. It reads the image, deletes the dangerous text data, and gives you a perfectly clean version of the image to share safely.

How to Use the Scrubber (Step-by-Step)

Select File

Drag and drop your photo into the glowing box above, or click "Browse Files". We support JPEG, PNG, and WEBP formats.

Review Data

The tool will instantly analyze your image. If it finds sensitive information like GPS coordinates, it will alert you in red on the right-hand side.

Scrub & Save

Click the Scrub Metadata button. Your browser will instantly download a clean, privacy-safe version of your photo starting with "ghost_".

How it Works: 100% Local & Secure

Most websites that offer to remove metadata require you to upload your personal photos to their servers, completely defeating the purpose of privacy. We built this tool to operate with Zero Trust Architecture.

In-Browser Processing

When you drop a photo onto this page, our JavaScript engine reads the file directly into your device's temporary RAM. Your photo is never uploaded to any server.

HTML5 Canvas Redrawing

To scrub the data, we use the HTML5 <canvas> API. We paint the visible pixels of your image onto a blank digital canvas, intentionally leaving behind the hidden text metadata.

Perfect Quality Export

The browser then exports the pure, unadulterated pixels back into a new image file. The visual quality remains stunning, but the metadata is destroyed forever.

The "Offline" Guarantee

Because everything happens on your machine, no data is ever transmitted to us. You can disconnect your Wi-Fi before selecting a photo, and the tool will still work perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do social media sites strip metadata automatically?

Yes and no. Major platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) generally strip EXIF data when you upload a photo to protect user privacy. However, if you are sending a photo via Email, iMessage (as a file attachment), Discord, Telegram, or uploading it to a personal blog, the metadata remains fully intact and accessible to anyone who downloads the image.

Can I recover the metadata once it is scrubbed?

No. The scrubbing process creates a brand new image file containing only pixel data. The original EXIF data is permanently destroyed in the new file. We highly recommend keeping your original (unscrubbed) photos safely backed up on your personal hard drive, and only sharing the scrubbed versions online.
